Ananya, a 19-year-old engineering student from a small town in Karnataka, almost didn’t register for the SheforSTEM Innovators Hackathon 2025.
“I didn’t think I was ready. I had never joined a real coding competition before,” she said.
But something inside her clicked. With encouragement from her professor, she signed up — just to try. What she didn’t expect was to find a community of women just like her — passionate, nervous, brilliant.
During the 24-hour event, her team worked on an AI-powered mental health chatbot. They didn’t win the first prize, but what they gained was far more valuable: confidence, connections, and a renewed belief in their abilities.
“When I presented our project in front of industry experts, including a senior developer from Microsoft, I realized I belong in this space. I’m not behind — I’m just beginning.”
Ananya is now interning with a tech startup she met at the hackathon. Her journey with SheforSTEM is just getting started.
